When I moved to the bay area ELEPHANT MAN were just starting up as a band.  I love these guys.  Elliot, the drummer, was one of the few people I knew before moving out here, bassist Frank was one of the first people I met, and Daisuke became my closest friend during 2001.  Elephant Man didn’t last very long, in 2002 vocalist Daisuke moved back to Japan, but they did manage to release a 7″, and I think they have a CD with all their recordings available.  Oh, and if you didn’t notice, that’s Mike from Capitalist Casualties on guitar.  This show was at Kimo’s in San Francisco, Kalibas and Creation Is Crucifixion were also on this show.  Very good times, and great memories.  Turn this up and lay it loud!!!

THE SWORD were a band that seemingly came out of nowhere and blew the fuck up pretty quick.  Lots of people love them, and some hate them.  So it goes.  They were a local band in Austin, Texas for a couple years before signing with Kemado records and releasing their debut full length, Age Of Winters.  Then they toured the hell out of that record, and their next couple records as well.  When Age Of Winters was released though, they were already gaining a small following, probably helped by a wave of “stoner”and “retro” bands that were also getting popular at that time.  The Sword seemed to get them in all the magazines, and even on MTV as a “band to watch”.  So yeah, when the backlash came, it came hard.  Whatever.  Well, we saw them right around the time of the release of Age Of Winters, at the 12 Galaxies in San Francisco.  This was from their tour with Priestess and Early Man.  It was a small but fun show, the retro backlash wasn’t quite in full swing yet so we were able to have a good time without feeling guilty, though we did split after The Sword and Priestess.  Sorry Early Man.  Here’s video of The Sword’s set.  Get baked and play it loud.

Here’s another one from DYSTOPIA.  We’ve posted a song from this set before, but now here’s the entire thing.  It’s dark, but I’m sure any real Dystopia fans won’t care that much.  This was the 4th annual Slap-A-Ham Fiesta Grande at 924 Gilman Street.  If you were there, punch yourselves in the arm, jerks.  I’m jealous.  Because this was part of the Fiesta Grande, the set is on the shorter side.  Still, it’s got cool early versions of songs that were new at the time, such as “Socialized Death Sentence”  and “Backstabber”.   Pretty awesome.  Imagine if this band got back together and played even just these songs, how sick would that be?  Fuck…  I saw them twice, and I’m happy to have even seen them at all, but boy do I wish I lived in the east bay back then.  Again, to everyone that did, punch yourselves the arm.  Hard.  Jerks.

We’re super stoked to be posting this video of CORRUPTED, from their first appearance at 924 Gilman Street back in 1997. If you were at this show, or any of the shows on their 1997 US tour, you are a lucky bastard.  I lived in Rochester, NY, and they didn’t come close to my city at all, nor could I arrange a ride to see them in a city 6 or 7 hours away.  Total bummer.  Luckily a lot of footage was shot across this tour by the drummer of Catheter, Haroldo Mardones (I think he was playing drums for Disassociate on this tour), and a bunch of that footage got traded around and eventually I came across it.   Make sure you turn this up and play it loud, it’s CORRUPTED!!!  Make the walls shake!!

DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN were supposed to play in my basement in 1997, but we decided to cancel that show due to our landlord and neighbors being pissed at us for all the shows we’d been throwing that summer.  It wasn’t until 2000 that they finally came to Rochester, playing an expensive show at the Water Street Music Hall, a venue way too large for the band’s draw at that time.  This place had a barrier in front of the already high stage, it seemed silly considering the small crowd.  Still, it was a fun show, and they were explosive.  Their light show added to the intensity of their set, along with the  lightning fast barrage of notes being played over their swinging guitars.  Despite their crazy energy and jumping around and whatnot, they still sounded pretty tight.  This was with their original vocalist, Dimitre Minakakis, too, so it’s classic DEP.  Recorded by yours truly on my buddy Ryan’s camera, this footage comes right from the master source.  Watch it with the volume all the way up!

SOILED were a goofy Buffalo band that played an over the top mess of noise blur grind with multiple vocalists.  People wore wigs and funny hats, it was crazy.  I’m posting this by request, sorry if you accidentally clicked the link and heard what this band sounds like.  I’m kidding, really, everyone should watch this.  It’s pretty fucking silly.  This was in the basement of the house some friends and I lived in, good ol’ 18 Overdale Street, back when I lived in Rochester, New York.   Innerface, Assholeparade and Suppression played as well, the Suppression footage has already been posted.  Oh, this band played until I unplugged them, and I think the camera was plugged in to everything too, so it all ends abruptly.  Guys in this band were in a lot of other bands, some of which are still very active, check out this tree here.   So yeah, SOILED!

Here’s a full set from the bay area’s ACEPHALIX.  I missed the first minute or so, but otherwise here’s their entire performance from the Victory Warehouse in Oakland.  This was the final night of their two week tour with Undergang, an epic show that was combined with the Bone Sickness / Miasmal tour passing through this same night.  Laudanum opened.  It was amazing from start to finish.  I didn’t shoot everybody, the large audience meant smoking lots of weed and hash and I was pretty much rendered useless by the time Miasmal, the final band of the night, set up to play.  Acephalix, currently signed to Southern Lord, are hopefully writing their next record.  I haven’t seen them play in months, so I assume they are holed up somewhere writing new stuff.  I did see that they have plans to tour all summer, so hopefully something is in the works.  For now, jam this video! This isn’t one of the better MAN IS THE BASTARD videos in terms of audio and video quality, but it’s the oldest MITB video I have, and the only video I have of the band from 1992.  It’s a great document of the band in their early years. Their performance is pretty killer, and the video was at least shot right up front.  I love that there’s only one mic stand, and that someone has to hold Eric Wood’s mic for the entire set.  I don’t know exactly what city this show was in, but the venue was Munchie’s.  Anyone remember what city this place was in?  Well, enjoy this bit of DIY hardcore history, smoke some volcanic dope, crank up the volume and hail the skull!!!

EXHUMED are back in action after a six year hiatus, though I’m sure everyone knows about that.  In 2011 they released the excellent All Guts, No Glory on Relapse Records, and have been touring  seemingly non-stop since it’s release.  In honor of their return, and the 20th anniversary of the band, we’re presenting a wicked old video of Exhumed playing at the One Step Beyond in San Jose, California back in 1992, when the band was still very new (and everyone was very young!)   This was part of an amazing bill.  Colostomy, Plutocracy, Mindrot, Immortal Fate and Phobia all played as well, and they were all recorded so expect those sets to be up here eventually.  For now, dig on this old Exhumed footage, and go see them live if they come to your town, dammit!

Another personal favorite, the mighty CREATION IS CRUCIFIXION!  Here’s another video of them, this time a full set from one of their last local shows prior to embarking on a 6 month world tour.  I don’t know if they completed six months, they might have snapped on the way, and broke up after that.  Well, here’s a video of them at the AK Press Warehouse in Oakland.  This was part of a show and hactivist presentation thing they had.  Three bands played after having a presentation where the band and various other rouge engineers and scientist demonstrated various hactivist projects such as the game boy modding and the graffiti robot.  There was also a Q&A, which was pretty cool.  It was rad to hear about and see all the things these guys worked on in a calm setting versus Nathan’s usual method of spitting out tons of info between songs while out of breath.  Plus, with all the information out of the way, the band played a straight set of tunes, with pretty much no breaks to talk.  So if you were one of those numbskulls that wanted them to just “shut up and play”, here you go!  Play it LOUD, get your face melted off!!!!

“We’re from the 90′s.”  That’s how RORSCHACH started their set when I saw them at 924 Gilman Street in 2011.  Here’s a total raging set from them at the same club back in those glory days.  This is probably the best video of them from their original run in the 90′s, and on top of that this is likely the best source of this video you’re ever going to see unless someone produces the master tape.  I’ve written about it before, but I’ve come across this video several times in my 15+ years collecting, and this is by far the one.  So enjoy the hell out of this one, it’s worth multiple views!  Play it LOUD too!
