Mean and violent looking, ugly and slow, heavy as all fucking hell. That sums up BUZZOV*EN. Here’s a very goddamned killer video of them performing at CBGB’s in New York City back in 1997. This looks and sounds great, and the performance has so much more energy and snarl to it then the recorded version. That drummer POUNDS that kit! If you like this band and this song, quit fucking around and hit play, and then watch it over and over again, and then go hit someone. And make them give you drugs. And then kill yourself.

Here we are just having a good ol’ time in a backyard in Oakland, enjoying some riffs with friends, bobbin heads along to locals Cruevo and Brainoil, and Leechmilk, on tour from Georgia. The riffs were heavy, and shook the ground with such force that three days later shockwaves travelled across the country, and when it hit the other coast, airplanes fell from the sky and both towers of the World Trade Center collapsed. Not wanting to alert the populace to the destructive powers of Oakland’s scene, and needing an excuse to go kick Saddam Hussein’s ass and steal his oil, President Bush blamed terrorists, and a global war on terror began. That’s the fucking TRUTH! It’s on the internet now!!

This video consists of two songs originally appearing on Brainoil’s demo, which were then re-recorded for the split CD with Cruevo. Find it, buy it (or download it), love it. Check out BRAINOIL online too.

Kill That Cat is BACK!!! We’ve been gone all summer, having been handcuffed to the band INTRONAUT. First, I was sent to Los Angeles to document them in the studio recording their new album, and then was also brought out on tour to record footage to be used in a music video for them.

Here’s the first video, a teaser vid, a little preview of what’s coming in the next month. As I mentioned, earlier this year I was sent to Los Angeles, to hang out in the studio with Intronaut. We smoked a lot of weed, cracked a lot of jokes, and filled the air with farts. In the middle of all this, they also recorded their new album, Valley Of Smoke, and I had my camera to prove that this actually all happened. It’s amazing, these guys walk into the studio, smoke a hash joint, rip a few farts, and suddenly they are covered in hits. It’s both disgusting and wonderful, and almost everything is covered in beards.

It was a stormy Sunday afternoon. My brain was beaten by weeks of grindcore, followed by a long weekend of youth crew styled straightedge hardcore. I made it to the club, soaked head to toe, ready to kill every motherfucker that ever motherfucked. But lo, I was distracted by something unfamiliar, some bands I had never heard, and would normally not check out. I had never been one for any rockabilly or psychobilly, but my ears welcomed the new sounds, and god dammit those sounds were rocking and rolling!!!! Several bands played this afternoon, each one lessening my desire to kill and before I knew it, I was having fun.

Eventually a song from each of the bands that played will be uploaded, but these guys, Koffin Kats, were by far my favorite band of the night. They had fun, fast songs, and were obviously having a great time playing. I’ve picked out one song that really sorta captured the energy and chemistry between themselves as performers, their music, and the people there to see them.

If you are ok with not grinding for a few minutes, I suggest you check this out. Turn it up real loud, too, and make out with a hot chick or something. DO IT!!!

Here it is finally! Back in February Cyco Mike from OPPRESSED LOGIC had his 41st Birthday Bash at ye olde Gilman St, and it was quite a fun night. The bands were all killer, though Dr Know and Angry Samoans were highlights for me, having never seen either before. For some reason despite never hearing DR KNOW I always assumed I wouldn’t like it, and never bothered to check them out. Well, once again I was wrong, and I thought they were great. I’m an asshole for missing them all these years. Same with ANGRY SAMOANS, I knew their songs at least, but I had no idea that live it would be so weird, so almost terrible and yet totally fucking fun! All the other bands ripped it up, especially Oppressed Logic, this was probably the best set I’d seen them play. They are one of those bands that gets more animated and more into it the more people are there watching them. Mike kinds needs to bounce off of people, and this show had tons of that. A big turnout, both young and old, provided a big kick in the ass to all the bands playing. For the BUM CITY SAINTS fans, this is some of the last footage with Shadow in the band. A couple weeks later she left the band (and they are continuing as a three piece). NIHILIST CUNT and GUANTANAMO DOGPILE also played. I’m kinda sick of all this typing now, though, so I suggets you quit all this reading and check out the video highlights I posted from each set. Thanks to Arnol for recording the audio!

Mike Kirsch has been in a LOT of bands, spanning 20 years, a lifer in the world of D.I.Y. hardcore. Here is his latest band, MOTHERCOUNTRY MOTHERFUCKER, playing their 1st show, a free show in someone’s living room in lovely West Oakland. Great tunes and a great presentation too, I love the costumes and the videos playing above them. Hopefully this band will put out a record soon!
