WE’RE BACK! AND WE BROUGHT SOME BARONESS WITH US!
December 6th, 2009
Sorry about that folks, a couple months ago the camera I use to load video onto my computer started acting up, and then a month ago it died flat out. So if you are wondering why we were posting less and less, and then just stopped, it’s because of that. We couldn’t afford a new camera at that time, so we had to patiently wait it out. Well, now we are BACK!!!! Look out!! We shot a lot of video in the downtime, and I’ve got to start sorting through it now, so in juts a couple weeks we will be FLOODING this site with killer tunes. Really, you have no idea how much is coming, because in this downtime I was also preparing old videos for upload as well.
A few nights ago we caught BARONESS, currently touring in support of their just released “Blue” record on RELAPSE . This record seems to be hitting everyone’s top ten lists, I guess it would hit mine too if I had a physical copy to check out. What I have heard is great, a solid continuation of what was going on in the “Red” album. There are other people that probably have the record and would do a better job at reviewing it, so I’ll just give it my thumbs up, should I wind up with the album I’ll give it the proper review.
Live, the band fully delivered a rocking performance. It’s great to see a band like the songs they play, I like watching a band have fun on stage. They played at the BOTTOM OF THE HILL in San Francisco, so it was an intimate gathering, and was of course sold out.
Most of the songs played this night came from the Blue record, which was pretty much played in it’s entirety. Sprinkled in the set were songs from the Red album as well as the First and Second EPs, putting the band onstage for a solid 70 minutes. I’d seen Baroness a few times already, always opening, so it was nice to see them “stretch out their legs a bit” as Baizley put it after the show.
The show was opened by IRON AGE and EARTHLESS. I’d like to see Iron Age at a different show. Though they sounded great, it did feel like the wrong crowd for these guys, so it didn’t feel like their set had the energy that Earthless and Baroness brought. I’m not familiar with Iron Age’s music, but the songs were decent. They played what they announced was a “brand new song” and that one was really good, which is a good sign that they will be getting better as they go. I’ll keep an eye out to catch these guys on a different show.
Earthless really connected with the audience, which by now pretty thick. It had been a few years since I last saw them, but other than adding a bass player, everything was pretty much the same. They played a non-stop 40 minute jam with everybody playing as hard as they could it seemed. It jacked up the energy in the crowd for sure, and by the end of it, my ears were ready for short songs with beginning and ends.
A very good show over all. We brought our cameras with us as we sometimes do, so we even have some video of Baroness to share with everyone. Check out Baroness performing “The Sweetest Curse” from their new album “Blue” at The Bottom Of The Hill in San Francisco!
