YAPHET KOTTO. The band not the dude. I liked these guys a whole lot. They almost made it to ten years as a band. 3 LPs and a bunch of splits and EPs. Saw them a bunch, and it usually was totally awesome. This was one of the awesome times.
This was the release show for their third LP, “We Bury Our Dead Alive”. They played the entire album from start to finish and capped the set off with a song whose name I can’t remember. Since that third LP is fucking killer, I’m glad I caught this show on tape. If you dig it, fucking watch it!
And as a bonus, for a limited time this will be available to download as a Quicktime movie file! I have no idea how long this will be up, it depends on my bandwidth and all, so get it sooner than later.
NO ONE DIES ALONE is the name of a Rorschach cover band that a few folks in the East Bay have started when they all came to realize how much they each loved the band. 5 practices later and they had a short set pretty down, and they played this show. I’m not sure if they are going to do this again, though I hope they play a couple shows, but for what this is it’s pretty cool. I love a ton of bands and often think about how fun it would be to start a band just to cover each band, so hat’s off to everyone in No One Dies Alone for getting off their asses and doing it. Oh, and in the band is members of Saviours, Thousandswilldie, Stormcrow, and Anchient Forrest. And sorry, you can’t really hear vocals in this video, the PA couldn’t overpower the amps. Plus, I was on the other side of the speaker, too, which doesn’t help either. Fuck it, just get high and watch it.
This was from the same show as yesterday’s post, with Thousandswilldie, War Trash, In Disgust, and No One Dies Alone (a Rorschach cover band!) in Oakland earlier this month. This was the last show of Knelt Rote’s tour. I believe they are coming back in the spring, I’m looking forward to it.
IN DISGUST are a fucking fun band to see live. They play short, fast, and loud. And they do it with more energy and recklessness than a lot of the other bands in the same genre. Here’s a video of the most recent In Disgust show I saw, at the Haz Mat in Oakland a couple of weeks ago.
Oh, and if you want to hear more In Disgust check out the IN DISGUST WEBSITE.
Fuck yeah, man! I finally dug out a Nunslaughter tape from the 2002 California tour. These had been buried, sometimes lost, beat up, and now one of them at least has finally been cleaned up and posted online. It’s a bit dark, but duuuuhhh it’s fucking Nunslaughter! On top of it, it’s Nunslaughter at fucking Gilman!
Thanks to Nick Destructive Youth for getting the band out to California, probably a few years to early what with the resurgence of thrash amongst the kids now. Shit, Ghoul hadn’t have even started yet. This show now would be way more nuts probably. But at the same time, this was so much fun that I doubt I would have wanted to have it any other way. All Shall Perish, Capitalist Casualties, Noctuary, & Exhumed all played this show too. Anyone still got the flyer? Scan it and post a link and I’ll edit into this post!
Oh, and just to warn you there is glitch in the first song and a few seconds of music gets cut, and after the 2nd song the lights are turned down so it gets grimmer and shit.
Ever since hearing the “Morbid Florist” EP I have been hooked on Anal Cunt’s blurry grindy mess. AC shows were always stuff of legend, and I wish I could have seen them back in the earlier days. Well, thanks to Mike J. who sent me these videos (as well as a batch of others). I might not be able to be there in person, but the videos tend to be a step up from just stories being told.
So to start things off we have an AC video from Mexico in 1994. It certainly seemed like a fun AC show to be at! The 2nd video is Anal Cunt rehearsing their set in an attic back in 1988. This is fucking awesome. I always loved those blurry noisy EPs, and it’s cool to see them actually playing it. Actually rehearsing it even! Hahaha they rehearsed!
Here it is! I shot this set and the Asunder set but the tape got lost in my piles due to a mis-labelling. Well, I finally found it! Hooray! I’ve only videotaped this band twice, and it’s just by coincidence that both times happen to be when Chiyo (from Noothgrush) played drums. Both times were with Asunder as well! I wish I had taped their other shows that I saw, but I fail sometimes.
I’m not sure who else played besides Asunder. I don’t really remember much about this show at all other than that Chiyo was in the band at the time and was pregnant with Laney. Jackie was still in the band back then, too. Well, this is one from the foggy archives for sure. If anyone knows the names of the songs they play at this, post ‘em and I’ll edit it into this.
Today’s entry comes from the SF/Oakland doom band ASUNDER. I know it’s Christmas, but with the state of our economy, nationally, locally, and even personally, this probably will be a proper fit with the mood this year.
This is an older show with an older lineup. Different bass player whose name I’ve fogotten, and a cello player whose name I’ve never known. I’m sort of torn on wether this should even be uploaded. The set isn’t their best, I can see (and hear) why they never kept the cello player for the live setting. There was also some feedback bothering them through the set. On the other hand, this was my first time seeing and falling in man-love with the band, and looking back on it now it’s neat to hear these songs in their early stages and with this old lineup (and without all the lights off too!). Well, up it goes. Don’t hate me, Asunder!
Well, as always, if you dig the video, but haven’t heard the studio stuff, you should head over to the ASUNDER MYSPACE PAGE. And be sure to get their albums! “A Clarion Call” is incredible, and “Works Will Come Undone” is even better! Of course the splits are killer, too.
To celebrate the release of High On Fire’s latest album, “Death Is This Communion”, the guys played a free in-store at Amoeba Record’s in San Francisco. I’ve uploaded a song before, one that Corin mixed herself (which you can see HERE), but this is the complete performance.
This set was short, but it was great still. They blasted through 5 songs from Death is This Communion, and after watching them record these songs in the studio, it was real nice for me to finally see them rip through them like this.
Thanks to RELAPSE RECORDS for hooking us up. Be sure to get all of High On Fire’s records! And if you live in the bay area or L.A., you can get them at AMOEBA RECORDS (thanks go to them as well of course).
news, the guys have signed to KOCH RECORDS. Seems like an odd pairing to me, so we’ll see where this goes. I wish all the best to HIGH ON FIRE with the new label and of course am anxious as always to hear what they do next.

Well, sorry it’s been so long since I updated this site. I took a month off to finally clean up my hard drives and get a work flow going with these videos, as well as spend some time digitizing the Gilman videos I’ve been sent (and killing Super Mutants in Fallout 3 too). When I started going heavy with the videos, I just jumped into it without any regard to what I was getting myself into, and I spent a few months trying to keep up with myself. So now things are in order, and on Monday the videos and mp3s will be uploaded every day. I have a whole fuckload of videos all set to go, and I still have so many to go through. Don’t worry, I’m in no danger at all of running out of rad videos to upload!
However, I have been getting asked about submissions, and yes, if you have something wicked that you’d like me to stick up here, then feel free to send me anything. Might as well make the most of youtube and get them up for the world to see and enjoy or hate or whatever. I can take any formats, and can digitize most anything from a consumer standpoint, 8mm, MiniDV, VHS, VHSC.
One thing I’m definitely looking for is ANY AND ALL VIDEOS SHOT AT 924 GILMAN ST!!!!
I’m priveleged to work on what will be the 25th Anniversary DVD for the club, and am looking for as much footage as I can find. Photos, flyers, videos, audio recordings, anything basically. Of all styles and time periods. Even if you know someone who might have shot some videos or have some lying around from their more youthful days when they went to the club, any help or leads will be appreciated greatly!!!!
Hit me up here on the myspace and we’ll work it out
