Time to get straightedge as fuuuuuck to this killer old video from this New York hardcore band JUDGE. Judge were formed in 1987 by John “Porcell” Porcelly and Mike “Judge” Ferraro, both members of the band Youth Of Today. Porcell was also in the band Project X, another band like Judge that was over the top militant sxe hardcore. I’d like to think a lot of this stuff was rather tongue in cheek, but I could be way wrong. Judge was a killer band, and though only together for a few years (87-90), and releasing just a couple 7″ EP’s and an LP, they would help shape the sound of hardcore over the next decade. Even though I’ve never been straightedge, I have no problem rockin’ out to their songs. Since they broke up long before I was into hardcore, I never saw them live, and had no videos of them. So I was pretty stoked to get this video of the band playing at 924 Gilman Street. Gilman’s scene is generally the exact opposite of the NYHC scene, but as long as I’ve been going to the club, they’ve always hosted shows like this. I’m a big nerd about collecting old Gilman videos and seeing the history of the club, and so getting a Judge video from there is pretty cool. The video is a bit dark, but at least this is sourced from low gen tape, so it’s probably as good a quality as can be found, from someone collecting videos in the late 80′s and early 90′s. The sound is pretty killer on this as well. Good stuff all around. X up, smoke up, whatever you do, just turn it up and mosh, dammit!
