CONTROLLING HAND were a progressive rock/metal band made up mostly of folks that were in the band Man Is The Bastard. It’s pretty much MITB without Eric Wood, and with a guitar player. Musically this is nothing similar to MITB at all, though they do cover an unreleased MITB song (Intercession). Where MITB songs were often short, fast, and harsh, these songs are longer and easier to sort of sink into. It’s still heavy as hell at times, invoking a very slow Neurosis feel before shifting gears into long instrumental passages that sound similar to bands like Yes. They only ever released one studio recording, which came out on the compilation False Object Sensor, but they were selling a live CDR at their shows. So here’s both releases. Not a very big discography, but still cool to rock. I love these tunes, and was lucky enough to catch them three or four times. They broke up after just a year, and Kenyon and Connell started up their next band, Lux Nova Umbra Est. I have some stuff I’ll be uploading in the futurem but first things first, CONTROLLING HAND! Hey ON*D! I didn’t want it to be a Christian band, though I was trying to keep the band less overtly political in my then lame vision of how life should be. I couldn’t deal with AK just taking over
where now I might be honored. The guy has a serious vision that consumes him and I just couldn’t deal with it at the time. I couldn’t deal with a 100 ft. tall AK destroying churches and republican institutions. I always end up agreeing with him about 10 years later. Too fucking late now. Love and Power to you and all!
It was a very fun, shortlived band & real sorry it ended so quick! I can be partially blamed for pushing some samples that offened some in the band. CONTROLLING HAND was realLY meant to be a christian band? Ie CONTROLLING HAND but only 2 members were. Love all involved, talented musicians! Everyone write EVAN. Amazing guitarist who should be playing for all to hear!!!
