KALIBAS were a brutal tech death metal band from Rochester, N.Y. This band originally began as one of the many lineups of As The World Burns (whose demos will be posted here eventually), but when they realized these songs were quite different from older ATWB material, they went and did what most bands should do when this happens: they changed their name and started it as a new band. As The World Burns reformed with an older version of the lineup and Kalibas went on as it’s own entity. While they aren’t really an active band anymore, they still do pop up for an occasional show, and supposedly have an album being recorded. I’m not really sure though, since I don’t live in Rochester anymore.
When Kalibas began, they played one show and really, I couldn’t make heads or tails of what was going on, and while I didn’t dislike it, it didn’t grab me either. Then they went to Watchmen and recorded this demo, and I was fucking floored. Once I could hear everything, I couldn’t stop listening to it. Howling Bull America wound up releasing this same recording as a 7″, but this rip is from the original mix that was handed out to friends. Download and play loud.
Jody Roberts, the main force behind this band does have a new band called Order Of The Dead. If you like Kalibas, paypal him money to buy him a pack of smokes please, life is rough.
