This week a friend of mine, Stacy Shrag, passed away. I met him in 2002 at a Pig Destroyer show at 924 Gilman, where he was selling demos of his band BLUEPRINT FOR DISASTER. Just after that show, I found out he posted on the same messageboard as I did, and we didn’t exactly get along. We argued over various dumb things. However, in 2004 I went to Medford, where he lived, and saw his band open for Mastodon at a record store. He showed me and my two friends a great time, and we all got drunk as hell and laughed a ton. I hung out with him a few more times, in Portland at a Converge/Mastodon show, and in Oakland when he toured with Akimbo. I’m glad I got to know him as a person, and not just as an internet screen-name. I still can’t believe he’s gone.
So today I’m posting that demo I bought off him nearly ten years ago. Download it, play it loud, and have a drink/smoke for a fallen brother-in-grind. You will be missed, Stacy.
