Imagine you ate way too many mushrooms, passed out, and woke up at a campfire in the desert in the middle of the night, with a crazy snakehandler preacher freaking out on one side of you, and a calm native american chanting something you don’t understand on the other side. Add in a soundtrack of dark and heavy grooves mixed with guitars that blend elements of post punk and straight off the mountain folk music, and you have a WOVENHAND performance. Kinda like that scene from Natural Born Killers.
I’m sure most folks still reading this are familiar with Wovenhand and David Eugene Edwards, as well as his former band 16 Horsepower. I’m new to all of it myself, but I liked it enough to keep checking for new tour dates. I knew they had a new album, The Threshing Floor, so I figured there was bound to be a tour! My patience paid off when I saw a listing on Bottom Of The Hill’s site. The show did not disappoint, playing a 70 minute set that was hypnotic from start to finish. David Eugene Edwards performs as if in a trance, it really is great to see it live. Everybody is perfect in what they do, there was never a moment when I wasn’t completely digging on what everyone was playing.
I made a recording of their set, and it came out pretty killer. I’m posting it in both mp3 and AIFF. Please enjoy, leave some comments if you dig it, and all that good stuff.

Sorry.. “Horse head fiddle” starts BEFORE “Hist rest” and continues afterwouds.
Hello Dan.
Thank you so much for sharing this koncert with all of us.
I`ve seen both 16 Horsepower and Wovenhand many times through the last 10 years – i`m a huge fan
of Edwards music.
Well, lets finnish the tracklist.
First of all, the tune that comes after “his rest” that most of all sounds like an improvisation is an old
16 Horsepower-tune called “Horse head fiddle” taken from the album “Folklore” from 2004.
After “Kingdom of ice” comes “The speaking hands” Taken from the wovenhand-album “Consider the birds”.
(also) from 2004.
Then comes “Tin finger” also from “Consider the birds”.
After Your Russia comes “Breathing bull” wich is the intro on The album “Mosaic” from 2006.
Once again: Thank you for this great koncert,.
Hassan Duus Madani.

His name is David Eugene Edwards.. (Where did this Robinson come from ?? )
Ha! Thanks for catching that, I don’t know where Robinson came from either.
Ha! Marijuana strikes again! Eugene Robinson is a writer as well as the frontman for the band Oxbow. Sorry about that!
